Two big races are set to run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday August 28 – the Group 3 Concorde Stakes and the prestigious Group 1 Golden Rose.
The Concorde Stakes is set to start at 2:40PM, listed as race 4, and top of the odds at SportsBet are Reward for Effort and Patronyme. Both horses have early odds to win of $3.80.
Reward For Effort has the edge, with a win in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes last year and a recent win in the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes. Patronyme has been putting in some impressive barrier trial runs lately, but her recent race record leaves a little to be desired. A bet on Reward For Effort at SportsBet is looking good.
The Golden Rose will start at 3:50PM tomorrow, listed as race 6, and leading the odds at SportsBet is Crystal Lily at $4.20.
Crystal Lily won this year’s Golden Slipper and recently won the Quezette Stakes. She is closely followed in the SportsBet odds by Masquerader at $4.40, who placed second in the Run to the Rose. That race is excellent preparation for the Golden Rose, and Crystal Lily will struggle to stay ahead of Masquerader.
The horse that will likely put in the best performance on Saturday but will not win is Squamosa, who won the Run to the Rose. While the Run to the Rose win shows Squamosa has the ability to take a race around this length when luck is with her, her barrier draw of 14 in the Golden Rose is a challenge that few could overcome. Nevertheless, a place bet on this runner could be incredibly good value, as it is paying off at $3.60 in the early odds.
